Vegetarianism

"This is the most common picture about vegetarianism"

Vegetarianism is the theory and practice of voluntary non-consumption of the flesh of any animal (including sea animals), with or without also eschewing other animal derivatives(such as dairy products or eggs). Vegetarianism has its roots in the civilizations of ancient India and ancient Greece. In both instances, the diet was closely connected with the idea of nonviolence toward animals and was promoted by religious groups and philosophers.

Vegetarianism may be adopted for various reasons. Many people object to eating meat out of respect for sentient life. Such ethical motivations have been codified under various religious beliefs, as well as animal rights advocacy. Other motivations for vegetarianism are health-related, political, environmental, cultural, aestheticeconomic, or personal preference.

There are variations of the diet as well:

an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet includes both eggs and dairy products,

an ovo-vegetarian diet includes eggs but not dairy products,

lacto-vegetarian diet includes dairy products but not eggs.

A vegan diet excludes all animal products, including eggs and dairy. Some vegans also avoid other animal products such as beeswax, leather or silk clothing, and goose-fat shoe polish.

Fruitarianism and Jain vegetarianism permit only fruit, nuts, seeds, and other plant matter that can be gathered without harming the plant.

Pescetarianism ,which includes fish and possibly other forms of seafood.

A vegetarian diet which is poorly planned can lead to disorders, this risk may be offset by ensuring sufficient consumption of vitamin B12 and fatty acids.

A well planned vegetarian diet will provide all nutrients in a meat-eater's diet to the same level for all stages of life.
